Where Should Your Business Start With AI?
A practical, jargon-free way to find your first AI project — and avoid the ones that stall.

Most businesses don't struggle with whether to use AI. They struggle with where to start.
The answer is rarely "the most impressive idea." It's usually the most repetitive, well-understood task that already costs your team time every week.
Start with the work, not the technology
Before looking at tools, list the tasks that:
- Happen often — daily or weekly
- Follow a similar pattern each time
- Involve copying, sorting, summarizing or replying
- Frustrate the people who do them
These are strong candidates for automation or AI assistance.
Score each idea on value and effort
For each task, ask two simple questions:
- How much time or opportunity does this cost us today?
- How hard would it be to change? Think about data, systems and the people involved.
The best first projects are high value and low effort. They build confidence and fund what comes next.
Keep people in the loop
Good AI projects don't remove people from important decisions. They remove the busywork around those decisions. Design clear checkpoints where a person reviews, approves or takes over.
Measure before and after
Decide how you'll measure success before you build. Response time, hours spent and error rates are simple and meaningful.
The bottom line
Start small, pick a real problem and measure the result. That's how AI moves from an experiment to part of how your business runs.
